Substack's Politics Lead Doesn't Want to Talk About the Chinese Mob Investment
I've reached out to Catherine Valentine, no word yet
Here is the list of investors for Substack’s Series B. As you can see, Andreessen Horowitz and Lena Dunham’s buddy Audrey Gelman are right there alongside J17, which, as covered here, is a front for Chinese mob cash.
The politics lead for Substack is Catherine Valentine. She is a UVA graduate, who unfortunately are not generally the creme de la creme of the Commonwealth, they tend to get bewitched by a lot of these mobbed-up tech companies. Gets in the way of their HBO lifestyle fantasies, I guess.
I reached out to her to discuss what the company thinks about having a bunch of Chinese mob cash going into it, and whether this might impact the way their technology works, reasonable concerns in an election year. She hasn’t replied.
I obviously have a personal interest in this, and while taking the money itself might be OK, there are clear issues of the back-end FUCKING UP. There are particular people who are not receiving particular sends. I posted this tweet on May 20, when I checked, which means the recipient would not have been receiving most of my posts from that month. Weird, huh?
It’s not the only one. A DC reporter on my list, received none of the posts from April until July, when I posted that Tweet.
This is enough to make me think the service is not working as advertised. This has rather serious implications when one is trying to communicate with reporters, public officials, donors, and so on.
Miss Valentine appears to be close, based on a review of her tweets, with now Mrs. Hannah Yoest, the Bulwark’s art director.
Just wanted to make a note of it, since these are the people who are so very pro-democracy and fastidiously opposed to foreign influence.
